The GB-9780 was developed to provide precise dynamic control without compromising the music's natural feel. Designed for mix bus, subgroup, and stereo processing applications, it offers transparent compression capable of enhancing mix cohesion while preserving the full definition, depth, and impact of the original material.
Its architecture was carefully crafted to handle everything from extremely subtle compression to more pronounced effects, allowing audio engineers to easily find the sweet spot between dynamic control and musicality.
The result is a more solid, balanced, and consistent mix that retains the life and dynamics of the performance.
The GB-9780 acts transparently on the music, reducing excessive level variations without altering the recording's sonic identity.
When applying subtle amounts of compression, the unit creates a greater sense of cohesion among instruments, making the entire mix sound more uniform and balanced.
When used more aggressively, it offers excellent control over peaks and transients while maintaining definition, punch, and superb dynamic response.
The GB-9780 was designed specifically for stereo bus applications, where even slight gain reduction can completely transform the perception of a mix.
Its behavior fosters integration between musical elements, providing a greater sense of unity, depth, and balance, while further enhancing the stereo image.
It is also an excellent choice for processing subgroups such as drums, guitars, vocals, keyboards, and various other instruments.
The design combines optical and FET stages, resulting in an incredible sonic palette. Ideal for use on the master bus, subgroups, or for adding "glue" and body to individual instruments, the GB-9780 was created for producers and engineers working across any musical style. In the signal path, the GB-9780 begins with a dual op-amp for electronic balancing, proceeds through a normalization stage, and passes through the Ratio control before the sidechain; the final stage compensates for gain and prepares the signal for the 600:600 output transformer—which not only balances the signal but also adds that highly coveted, warm Greenbox sonic signature.
The sidechain is equally sophisticated: a combination of an optical cell (VTL5C4) and a FET stage delivers dynamic response along with extremely musical and effective compression. The front panel features ATTACK and RELEASE selectors (6 positions each), as well as THRESHOLD (sidechain level) and RATIO controls. Additionally, the sidechain includes a low-cut filter (150 Hz), making the compression even more musical.
The end result is a compressor that adapts to any situation—from delicate sub-mixes to heavy mastering tasks.
Make-Up Gain
Compensates for the level reduction caused by compression, maintaining a balanced final volume.
Sidechain
The Sidechain switch allows you to engage or disengage the compression, enabling you to compare the sound with and without the effect applied.
Analog VU Meter
The front-mounted VU meter allows for visual monitoring of compression behavior throughout operation, providing a quick and accurate reading of the gain reduction applied to the signal.
Each unit is hand-assembled using carefully selected electronic components and undergoes rigorous functional testing before leaving Greenbox Pro Audio.
This manufacturing philosophy ensures reliability, stability, and consistent performance, even during long studio sessions. Applications
