Inspired by the classic CL 1B, the Greenbox GL 2B circuit preserves the essential characteristics of the original model, but goes beyond, offering an expanded range of sound possibilities.
We innovated by adjusting the circuit, introducing exclusive features that further expand the sound and compression of this incredible equipment.
Optimizations in the compression stage:
We replaced the Fixed Attack/Release selector with a 4-position Knee selector, providing total control over the compression curve. Even so, Attack and Release can normally be controlled with each knob separately.
The Greenbox GL 2B not only carries over the characteristics of the CL 1B, but takes compression to new nuances, offering exclusive possibilities that you will not find in the original model.
Audio signal stage optimizations:
Not content with just the tube, we also added a 2N3055 transistor, known for its distinctive presence in renowned Neve equipment.
This powerful combination not only adds an even warmer tone to your audio, but also gives the GL 2B a rich duality of sonic characteristics, capturing the enveloping warmth of the tube and the unique clarity of the 2N3055 transistor.
UNDERSTAND THE CHANNEL LINK BETTER:
This 2-channel compressor can be used in two different ways: with the sidechain linked or with the sidechain independent on each channel.
When the link switch is on, the two sidechains start to act together, and in this way, if there is more gain at the input of channel 1, channel 2 will receive more signal in its sidechain and will compress more.
The Attack and Release times, as well as the Ratio, must also be adjusted equally on both channels, because this way the compression will act equally on both channels. The link switch serves only so that the signals from both channels pass on both sides of the sidechain equally.
To better understand, let's use an example: If a signal is applied to channel 1, this signal will enter the sidechain of channel 1 and channel 2 equally when the link switch is on, and the same occurs on channel 2, causing the signal to enter the sidechain of channel 2 and channel 1 equally. However, if the link switch is off, the signal from channel 1 will only enter the sidechain of this same channel 1, and the signal from channel 2 will only enter the sidechain of this channel 2.
Note: the link switch only performs sidechain joining (compression), without any crossover or joining between the channels of the audio signal flow.
